Church Treasurer Job Description

The church treasurer disburses all funds received into the church treasury in a responsible and organized manner. In addition, the treasurer ensures that funds are identified and bills paid when due so that the congregation's ministry can be effective.

Responsibilities
Monitor income and expenses monthly
Ensure proper financial controls are in place and being utilized
Work with an outside contractor (accounting firm) to produce monthly financial reports for Church Council and Finance Committee
Review financial reports for any concerns/issues
Constantly monitor and, when appropriate, make recommendations to the Finance Committee on ways to improve the overall church financial systems
Work with staff and volunteers to resolve financial and accounting transactional issues as they arise
Work with the Finance Chair on special projects such as software implementations related to accounting and finance functions of the church
Work with the banks used by the church
Work with the Finance Chair to develop an annual budget for the church
Maintain compliance with all applicable governmental tax guidelines
Assist in identifying future members of the Finance Committee

Spiritual Gifts and Qualifications
Have one or more of these spiritual gifts: administration, discernment, giving, faith, and helping
Have skills and an interest in financial matters
Be able to keep detailed and accurate records and maintain appropriate confidentiality
Have a passion for financially supporting the mission of the church
Be able to work with individuals and ministry leaders
